Elevator #1
Elevator is a great invention. It eases lives of lazy and scales the world down to people who lost or never had ability to ascend or descend.
It can also be used transfer heavy things.
There is also a cost to use and maintain such smart piece of equipment. The price suddenly becomes unjustified when greedy approver never uses things.
Especially when these end users are young and strong cadets.
So, all four Elevators were lifted to the top floor and off the power.
The life still goes on and rubbish collects on each floor. Every day garbage has to be thrown away.
Nobody knows who invented express bin in the shaft of elevator #1, but it was much easier to drag bucket and empty it in to the open door, then to walk many floors down the stairs in sometimes cold and rainy yard.
I was on duty, when Major "Pilot" ran into our station. He was shouting "Smoke, Fire!".
We followed him. There was a lot of smoke from the door on the second floor and signs of spreading fire were also seen.
We discharged 2 fire extinguishers through the hole in the door, but the fire was fed with the air through the roof. Elevator shaft turned into a huge chimney.
Hydrants were installed all other the accommodation, but in order to start water, plumber had to be called.
Meanwhile we went to the source of fire guarded by the sliding doors on the ground floor.
Folks with crowbars were trying to open the doors, so the nozzle could go through.
It was September 2002. Phones with video were not there, so my words have to be taken for granted. I decided to kick the door. It was not Chuck Norris round-Kick, not Van Damme jumping kick.
First Kick shook the door. Moment of silence and disbelief was followed by cheered appreciation.
Fun was over in only five hits. Last one almost cost me my mobile phone, which fell of the pocket and froze on the edge of burning pit.
With improved access fire was buried under water.
Some guys were later called to empty and clean the bottoms.
We were Heroes and received small money reward.
