My experience with Mortal Kombat began with MK2.
There were several arcade like machines, which were basically TV screens inserted in to cabinets and connected to SEGA Genesis consoles. They were always occupied and joysticks were hot from button mashing.
That game was unbelievable. Real looking fighters. Insane Finishes. Blood. You haven't seen that in games.
I played few times in that place, but later my friends and I gathered to play on our own consoles.
We knew all special moves and Fatalities by heart.
And because I've played MK2 before original MK I saw no point in spending to much time with first installment.
The difference between fighters in both MK were more mostly visuals. Basic moves were the same. And each character had two or three special moves.
That changed in MK3 a lot. Run button and combos made the game faster and my favourite in the series before MK9 came out.
Then UMK3 came out. I played it as well, but the roster became to big. I prefered playing with old characters. But You should know the moves of Your enemy to fight better. Also, by that time we started playing my friend's PlayStation. Tekken became new thing.
I spent several hours with MK4. Didn't like it.
MK Deadly Alliance was a nice game. Pints of Blood were spilled. My friend mastered Quan Chi. And I played as Sonya. In the long run it was a violent draw.
I stopped playing MK Deception after continiuosly failing combo challange in one of early levels of Story Mode. I do not remember much about that game.
And I know nothing about MK Armagedon.
There are several signature moves from original MK Trilogy. Uppercut, Sweep, Turn-Around High Kick and High Jumping. Uppercut and Jumping were back in MK vs DC Universe. But strafing was still in the game. It was brave project which confirmed that game should move to 2D fighting ans stay in 2D. And M-Rated logo MUST be on the box.
That is delivered in MK9.
